Illustration Friday - Sacrifice
Sacrifice
Those delicate wanderers,
The wind, the star, the cloud,
Ever before mine eyes,
As to an altar bowed,
Light and dew-laden airs
Offer in sacrifice.
The offerings arise:
Hazes of rainbow light,
Pure crystal, blue, and gold,
Through dreamland take their flight;
And 'mid the sacrifice
God moveth as of old.
In miracles of fire
He symbols forth his days;
In gleams of crystal light
Reveals what pure pathways
Lead to the soul's desire,
The silence of the height.
- George William Russell (1867 - 1935)
(acrylic on 9" x 12" stretched canvas)
Edit 7/19 - I posted my IF a bit late, because among other things, I was working on this article. It's a "must read" for those of you who do and those of you who don't know about the exquisite art of Andrea Pratt. Take a look!

It's beautiful and there is a feeling of stillness and eternity. I love the sky and the peaceful but powerful effect. Lovely!
words and painting go well together love ur colors in the sky contrast against the dark forground.
The serenity of this painting is beautiful!
The silhouette of the two horses is a perfect little design on its own. You can feel how tired they are after a day of work. (Or maybe that's just me.) Beautiful.
I have such a weakness for horses. This is gorgeous, and I love the blend of colors.

This is so peaceful but intense at the same time. The poem is a perfect complement to this gorgeous piece of work.
Beautiful blazing sky! And the words of the poem echo the end of a long hard day with peace. Love the silhouette against the sky.
lovely, your illustration enhances the strength of the poem without overpowering or changing its meaning -nice work
They sacrifice their lives to the gods of labor I think, but their intrinsic beauty remains. Serene and tender beauty about this piece. The poem is like a dedication to the sweet afterglow and spirit of their lives. Beautiful!
Inspiring and breathtaking! Just beautiful, Carla.
OOOh-- lovely! A very gentle sacrifice. Like the progress on the tattoos, too!
the pride and dignity of the horses is so apparent--a secular confirmation of "all god's creatures". i have the same appreciation when i look at my precious soulful dog. thank you!

So very beautiful! Good take on this subject!
This is beautiful, Carla. It's peaceful and mournful and melancholy and soothing all at once. I love the contrast of the silhouettes (sp?) against the rich colors of the sky.
Beautiful work, as always. That's one of them there Amoeba horses I've heard so much about in the act of binary fission! Groovie!
