Illustration Friday - Invention
To the Reader: Twilight
Whenever I look
out at the snowy
mountains at this hour
and speak directly
into the ear of the sky,
it's you I'm thinking of.
You're like the spirits
the children invent
to inhabit the stuffed horse
and the doll.
I don't know who hears me.
I don't know who speaks
when the horse speaks.

this wonderful lov the colors and the feel of winter
This looks like it could be a giant batik piece, with the inky colors flowing over the wax. Very nice
That's a really nifty effect-- almost reminds me of monoprint!! Very cool!
Your landscape work achieves a very tranquil effect Carla. The colors here glisten. I love how you incorporated the poem into your entry too.
The illustration is so perfect for this time of year. I'm not the biggest fan of poetry, but I have to tell you I love what you choose each time. This one knocked me out! Maybe because it's the style I love...not rhyming. Anyway, your posts are always enjoyed!!
What a beautiful concept! Your landscapes are always so lovely, and this one goes especially well with the poem.
i like the texture effects here and the colors- it has a snowy and peaceful feeling.
Really nice, Carla. Love the verse. :-)
It's speaking to me! Very effective illustration, like the texturing and colour to evoke the winter mountain feel.

Carla you used some of my favorite colors. I feel like i could run my finger over your piece and feel the texture on my computer screen. Love how your paintings are turning out. Keep painting.
That's a beautiful painting!!! Love the texture effect you applied over it and the blue and purple tones. The poem is really lovely too.
very nice textures; i like the colors you used-very wintery
Before I read you used photo shop here I thought maybe you used some gel medium or something else for that texture. It is a abeautiful painting with beautiful effects.
This does look very much like batik or a fabric piecing. Beautiful! Also, wanted to let you know I restarted my blog. The link is on my profile. I will link here!
i love the feeling of all your paintings, very calm and serene, spiritual. nice.
Your versatility is just astounding. You have imparted a certain feel in this stylised piece. I don't really have the words to describe this but wow!
Stunning work. I love winter, and anyone seeing this beautiful image is certain to know why.
The texture and color on this painting are wonderful. We live in an area surrounded by mountains, and I often see things like this but don't have the gift for rendering them as beautifully as you do. Your art is always amazing.
what a poem, carla. in a comforting way, it gave me the chills. i'm into love these days--that's no doubt part of it.
happy holidays to you

Love the picture and the poem!
Last Friday just before dusk I hurried over to the woods and meadows near my home, just to have the blue hour envelope me. I put the pictures on my blog.
Blue hours are magic, they make me feel like a child again.
