Illustration Friday - Peace

Real Peace

Down all the years I've wanted
a peace: not a cessation of war
nor a foul boredom instead-
foetid air dead in an old jar;

rather a translucent-as-water peace,
peace like the silence of books
or blue endlessness beyond cloud-fleece.
The peace that gives beauty her looks,

makes every flower modelled of light;
is like but is not a snowscape nor
cowslip days of spring, but is in sight
the moment I open a dream door

into the loved orchard of words...
In a breathless garden where
images and love live and quick birds
flit, beyond reason is real peace then.

- William Oxley

(6" x 8" acrylic on canvas - This is inspired by a photograph I came across somewhere that I can't remember. The scene touched me... glowing deep and warm, the two swans united in a still peaceful moment before the sun went down...)

The colors make me warm inside and the water scape is peaceful. Reminds me of one of our Erie sunsets over the lake which are always so peaceful to watch.

Have a wonderful weekend Carla.

What a perfect match this painting makes for the poem. I love how you've achieved such depth and a sense of intensely rich color with a relatively limited palette. Awesome. Happy holidays!

Perfect, absolutely perfect, Carla! I love how the swans seem to be sharing a peaceful moment together as they float off into the sunset. Whether or not you meant for it to be, it's kind of romantic that way. And definitely peaceful! Have a great long holiday break!!

I'm drawn to the deep red brown in the water, contrasted by the deep purple blue trees, accented with the setting sun. A beautiful piece. I've enjoyed the comment exchanges with you this year, Carla. I hope you and yours have a happy holiday season.

Lovely - feel the peace in heart - actually felt it for a moment tonight after shopping in the rush of Oxford Street and sitting by a warm fire listening to music. I love the direction your art is going. Have a Happy Christmas!

Extremely beautiful and peaceful. you are really gifted in color! On another subject- I use an antique drafting table that came from Connecticut- I know it's not all that amazing but I thought of it when I saw your location.

How evocative. Lovely as usual.

I love the use of poetry in your blogs.
I is amazing how poetry puts one immediately into another space and in doing so gives a rich moment to reflect and savor.
