Illustration Friday - Sprout

February: Thinking of Flowers

Now wind torments the field,
turning the white surface back
on itself, back and back on itself,
like an animal licking a wound.

Nothing but white--the air, the light;
only one brown milkweed pod
bobbing in the gully, smallest
brown boat on the immense tide.

A single green sprouting thing
would restore me. . . .

Then think of the tall delphinium,
swaying, or the bee when it comes
to the tongue of the burgundy lily.

- Jane Kenyon (1947 - 1995)

mixed media painting on 10" x 10" x 1.5" canvas - one of two paintings going into a show called "Altered Egos." You can see the other painting here.

Not sure yet which I like better. I do love the layering and textural elements -- particularly the way you collaged sheet music in. So good to see you keeping at it, Carla!

WOW!! I absolutely love the new direction your art is taking. The portrait below is amazing as well - and your inclusion of collage elements is done in a unique way. The faces on both women look like photographs! What a great show you'll have. Wish I could go!

Lovely face and form, and the arm and hand are intrigueing, their texture and form seem aggetated and groping, in contrast to the gentle aura of this painting.
To me this piece is a pretty mystery, even though the words explain so much, so well.

Your work leaves me speechless ~ so beautiful and intriguing. The layers on Sprout are almost translucent and have such dreamy look, is she holding a bird?? She has a look about her thats says shes really pleased with herself I wonder what has she done, is she about to let the bird go and fly away, has she just met her lover??? Now my mind is working overtime ~ hugs to you xx Jude xx
